Walkable city - 15-minute neighborhood
Description of the action and objectives
Green Deal action
Through urban district planning, renewal of district centers and investment in infrastructure, each district of the city will become more walkable and access to green spaces, outdoor activities, and services will be ensured within a 15-minute walk or bike ride. The main goals of the urban district plan are to make the established neighborhoods in the city more sustainable and environmentally friendly than before, increase the number of dwellings, and make it more convenient for property owners to make changes to their properties. Finalization of the neighborhood plan for Hlíðar, Háaleiti and Bústaðir is scheduled for the first half of the year. In 2024, preparation of the neighborhood plan for Grafarvogur and Grafarholt will also begin after public consultation and presentation processes.
Implementation period
Planned completion in the second half of 2030
