Electronic submission of manuscripts for the Tómas Guðmundsson Literary Awards is now open.
Four preschool, primary school, and playground areas to be renovated
Three preschool and primary school lots belonging to Reykjavík City will be renovated this year. Additionally, the playground at Skerplugata will be renovated. The estimated cost for these projects is 165 million króna.
Speed deterrent reconstruction this year
The Reykjavík City Executive Council has approved the reconstruction of speed deterrents throughout the city in 2025. The project will be put out for bid in two phases, with construction scheduled to begin in May and conclude in September.
Number of cyclists increases year-over-year in January and February
Winter cycling is off to a good start this year with significant year-over-year increases in bicycle traffic during both January and February. In the capital area, the increase was 6.2% in January and 21.7% in February compared to last year.
Democracy Day and Classroom Economy among award-winning projects
Hólabrekkuskóli, Foldaskóli and Melaskóli received the Inspiration Award from the School & Recreation Council, while Vogaskóli and the Buskinn youth center received recognition for a collaborative project. The Inspiration Awards are presented annually for outstanding preschool, primary school and recreational activities run by the city.
