The Reykjavík City Executive Council has approved the reconstruction of speed deterrents throughout the city in 2025. The project will be put out for bid in two phases, with construction scheduled to begin in May and conclude in September.

The reconstruction covers speed deterrents at several locations throughout the city, including in Laugardalur, the Háaleiti and Bústaðahverfi neighborhoods, Grafarvogur and Breiðholt. The project includes excavation work, asphalt paving, installation of traffic signs and road markings, plus the placement of granite curbs and ramps.

The estimated total cost for the development is 200 million króna. The goal of the project is to enhance safety and accessibility for all road users.

The following speed deterrents will be reconstructed in 2025:

  • At Álfheimar in Laugardalur
  • At Skeiðarvogur in Laugardalur
  • At Listabraut in Háaleiti and Bústaðahverfi
  • At Langirimi in Grafarvogur
  • In Norðurfell by Fannarfell
  • In Norðurfell by Eddufell
  • In Suðurhólar
  • In Austurberg by Suðurhólar
  • In Vesturhólar by Arahólar

Street closures during construction will be coordinated with Strætó Public Transport and other stakeholders to minimize traffic disruption.
