It is important for all people to be able to have a hearty and nutritious meal every day. Food delivery service is available for individuals who cannot cook for themselves and aren't able to eat at one of Reykjavík City's Department of Welfare's community centers.

How does the service work?

Food delivery runs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in Vesturbær, the city center, Háaleiti, Árbær, and parts of Laugardalur and Hlíðar.

 

Deliveries to Grafarvogur, Grafarholt, Kjalarnes, Breiðholt, and parts of Laugardalur and Hlíðar are made on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Food delivery orders for the following week must be placed by noon on Wednesday.

What's on the menu?

Can I have food delivery?

To qualify for food delivery, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a legal resident in Reykjavík
  • Be over 18 years of age
  • Live independently
  • Be assessed in need of home-delivered food under the Rules on Support Services

How do I apply for food delivery?

You can apply online for food delivery on My Pages.

You can also fill out an application in PDF format and send it to maturinnheim@reykjavik.is.

What happens if an application is denied?

If your application is denied and you believe there are special reasons that warrant an exception to the rules, you can submit an appeal to the Welfare Council appeals committee.

How much does home-delivered food cost?

Each meal costs 1,100 króna. The driving cost is 325 króna. In total, the meal costs 1,425 króna.

A payment slip for delivered food is issued monthly through online banking.

Have a suggestion about the food service?

You can submit a suggestion through Reykjavík City's Suggestion Portal, by emailing maturinnheim@reykjavik.is, or by contacting the service center at 411-1111.

Suggestions about food quality are forwarded to the production kitchen of Krydd og kavíar, the company responsible for meal preparation.
