Prosperity services

The new Child Prosperity Act took effect on January 1, 2022. The goal of the Act is to ensure children and guardians receive the right assistance, at the right time, from the right parties.

Families and children in need of early support have guaranteed access to a prosperity contact in the child's immediate environment, such as in preschool or primary school.

Guardians or children can start these prosperity services by requesting integrated services.

What is early intervention?

Early intervention means helping children who need support as soon as possible.

Effective early intervention ensures children's needs are met in a timely manner.

This is done by intervening early with targeted support and services so the child can thrive in school and recreational activities and at home. An overview of support and resources available at all service levels is shown below:

Integrated services

It can be time-consuming and demanding for parents to keep track of information about their child and sharing it with the right people at the right time. The purpose of integrated service is to have the child's contact person take over this task. When parents request integrated service, they are asking for and authorizing service providers to communicate and share information that could help the child.

If parents want to request integrated services to support their child's well-being, they can do so through Reykjavík City's My Pages.

Children can also submit a similar request using the proper application form.

Contact person

According to the Child Prosperity Act, a prosperity contact provides information and guidance about services and ensures children and guardians have unhindered access to services.

Children, youth, and guardians can reach the school prosperity contact to request integrated services. All preschool and primary school websites list the prosperity contact for their school.

Prosperity contacts for children 16–18 years old who are not in secondary school are located at the City's Centers.
