About Fjósið

Open all weekdays from 1:40pm to 5pm

The after-school program is open to 1st to 4th graders from Sæmundarskóli and is operated by the recreation center Brúin. The objective is to create a diverse operation and provide children a homely and safe environment.

Extended attendance

On professional development days, parent conference days, and during Christmas and Easter holidays, Fjósið is open all day from 8am to 5pm with prior registration. There is an additional charge for extended stays on these days. Fjósið is closed during the school's winter holidays.

Daily activities

Fjósið hosts a movie club called Paddi, which has organized activities including short film making for third and fourth graders. In these projects, children are directly involved in brainstorming, scriptwriting, costume selection/creation, and directing. Staff members provide assistance with filming and post-production. Once the films are ready, the groups have invited other children from the after-school program to attend screenings, which have been well-received. Additionally, Fjósið has developed a project named ‘Upp All Walls’ or 'Upp um alla veggi', where a climbing wall was installed. The climbing wall is primarily used in club activities, offering various climbing routes along with an obstacle course and challenges for when climbers reach the bottom.

Child prosperity

The Act on the Integration of Services in the Interest of Children’s Prosperity has come into effect. The goal is to ensure children and guardians receive the right assistance, at the right time, from the right parties. Families and children in need of early support have guaranteed access to a prosperity liaison in the child's immediate environment, such as in preschool or primary school. The prosperity liaison offers information and guidance on services and ensures that children and guardians have unhindered access to these services. Children, youth, and guardians can reach the school prosperity liaison to request integrated services.
