Joint use of school and after-school facilities
Description of the action and objectives
Green Deal action
In line with the Reykjavík City Policy for Facilities for Education and recreational activities, dialogue and cooperation between preschools, primary schools, after-school programs, youth centers, and school bands are to be increased, with guidance from the school and recreation offices in the different parts of the city. Efforts will be made to better utilize facilities within and outside the traditional school and after-school day.

Status report on January 1, 2024
This project is still ongoing. Work on shared housing use is progressing, but completion is pending new rules for primary, secondary, and tertiary users. Efforts are being made to integrate school bands into school facilities without extra costs.

The rules for first and second service users are undergoing final revisions. In many places, densification and better utilization is happening, along with greater understanding of the need to share square footage. | |
July 2022 | New implementation plan developed, approved, and launched. This is an ongoing project that will be in progress from 2022 to 2024. To monitor progress, a status assessment is made twice a year, at the end of the year and at the end of June. |
