Description of the action and objectives
Green Deal action
Enhance the ability of teachers at all levels to teach sex education and discuss sexual health. Cooperation among school nurses, school service, and Reykjavík's Gender Equality Academy. Encourage more schools/youth centers to participate in an experimental project on comprehensive sex education. Encourage all workplaces to actively participate in Week 6, which is dedicated to sexual health. Connect strategically with the unit-based education at the University of Iceland's School of Education.

Status report on January 1, 2024
Action completed. A learning community on comprehensive sex education has been formed, involving over 20 teachers from 15 schools. A youth meeting was held on December 6 and was successful. The themes for Week6 were communication and relationships. The pilot project on comprehensive sex education has become a permanent project that needs continued strategic support with education and follow-up. Six schools fully participated. Started strategic implementation and removed from the action plan of the Green Deal.

January 2023 | An educational community focused on comprehensive sex education is currently operational, with more than 20 teachers from 15 schools. Increased emphasis is being put on the participation of primary schools in Week 6. A forum for adolescents was held on December 6, and questions were sent to the query wagon in October 2022. Three preschools have received the Rainbow Certification. The pilot project on comprehensive sex education is no longer a pilot; six schools are now fully participating. An educational pack on comprehensive sex education has been prepared for other schools and youth centers to utilize. No progress has been made on linking awareness of sexual health with courses for credit at the School of Education. | |
July 2022 | New implementation plan developed, approved, and launched. This is an ongoing project that will be in progress from 2022 to 2024. To monitor progress, a status assessment is made twice a year, at the end of the year and at the end of June. |
