Active participation in social activities can contribute to better mental, physical, and social well-being for disabled individuals. In Reykjavík, there are a number of community centers that offer diverse, rich, and rewarding activities for adults.
The community centers are open to all Reykjavík residents. You can attend any community center that suits your interests and needs. In some cases, you may need to register in advance for events, workshops, courses, or groups. This will be advertised on each community center's website.
The community center activities are diverse and most people should be able to find something suitable for them. Workshops, art workshops, club activities, card games, excursions, yoga, dance, and gymnastics are just a few examples of what's on offer every week.
For more information on the schedule and activities, please visit the website of each community center.
Attending community centers is free. However, there may be some cost for attending workshops, classes, and courses. The costs are kept to a minimum.
It's rewarding to sit down to a healthy meal in a comfortable environment. Community centers run by the Welfare Department sell hot lunch every weekday.
