Active participation in social activities brightens the day and can contribute to better mental, physical, and social health. There are a number of community centers in Reykjavík, offering a variety of rewarding and lively activities for adults.
The community centers are open to all Reykjavík residents. You can attend any community center, depending on what you're interested in and what works best for you. In some cases, you need to register for events, workshops, courses, or groups in advance. This is advertised specifically at each community center.
The programs of the community centers is varied and most people should be able to find something to their liking. Workshops, art workshops, club activities, card games, excursions, yoga, dance, and gymnastics are just a few examples of what is offered each week.

Attending community centers is free. There may be some costs for participation in workshops and courses. However, the cost is always kept to a minimum.
It's rewarding to sit down for lunch in a cozy setting for a hearty and nutritious meal. Community centers run by the Welfare Department sell hot lunch every weekday.
