Evaluation of recreational activities

The main goal of the external assessment of recreational activities is to ensure that the assessment is instructive and focused on progress and improvements, contributing to better operations.

The future vision is that through intensive school and recreation, children and adolescents acquire education and experience to realize their dreams and positively impact their environment and society.

Quality standards for recreational activities

Quality standards and indicators for recreational activities were developed by a working group on internal and external assessment within the Department of Education & Youth and were published in 2015. These standards are used in the external assessment of after-school programs and youth centers in Reykjavík. They should also be useful for the internal assessment of each workplace.

The criteria are divided into five sections:

  1. Administration
  2. Recreation
  3. Human resources
  4. Local flavor
  5. Internal assessment.

The criteria are based on various elements, including legislation pertaining to activities for children and adolescents, the policies of the Department of Education & Youth, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, the fundamentals of education, and the Guidelines for recreation centers of SFS.

The main goal of the external assessment of recreational activities is to ensure that the assessment is instructive and focused on progress and improvements, contributing to better operations. The future vision is that through intensive school and recreation, children and adolescents acquire education and experience to realize their dreams and positively impact their environment and society.

Following external assessment, the after-school program/youth center submits an improvement plan to the office in charge of recreational affairs within the Department of Education & Youth of Reykjavík City, demonstrating how they intend to address the suggestions for improvement identified in the assessment.
