Support for children and parents with diverse language and cultural backgrounds

Description of the action and objectives

Green Deal action

Following up on the interactive agreement with Móðurmál.

Implementation period

Planned completion in the second half of 2024

Status: In progress

Status report on July 1, 2025

Status report as of year-end 2024: A contract was signed with Móðurmál in fall 2023 to fund children's native language instruction at Móðurmál language schools for 2024. Schools within Móðurmál participating in this project were required to have lesson plans and targeted instruction. The Center for Language and Literacy and Móðurmál are collaborating extensively to integrate Móðurmál's educational assessment into school assessment systems. This work is still in progress, and the goal is for all schools to include grades from native language schools on report cards by spring 2025. Part of this involves working with InfoMentor and Námfús to simplify data processing.

Status report at end of June 2025: This initiative was part of the broader measures in the Education Policy from 2022-2024. New initiatives will launch in July 2025 based on the new action plan of the Education Policy 2025-2027; accordingly, this item will be removed from the Green Deal. The project is on track and being monitored by the Center for Language and Literacy and the primary school office.
