About the preschool
Vesturborg is a three-division preschool for 76 children. The divisions are named after the buildings in Astrid Lindgren's Noisy Village (Ólátagarður): Norðurbær, Miðbær, and Suðurbær. The preschool has a large plot of land with lawns, a vegetable garden, trees, and other vegetation. There are a number of activities and organizations near Vesturborg that become a part of the preschool activities. These include Vesturbæjarlaug Swimming Pool, KR sports activities, Neskirkja, and the coastline at Ægisíða which is an ideal location for preschool children's expeditions.

Philosophy
The values of Vesturborg are friendship and respect
Vesturborg is run according to the ideology of John Dewey, who believed that daily life and learning should merge into one. According to him, children child should learn from either doing or based on their own activity and interest. Dewey believed that children learn from experience, not instruction. That's why we do our best to let the children enjoy themselves in play. We also place great emphasis on cultural and social literacy and working with the local environment, as well as cultivating the children's expressive and creative potential in order to strengthen their identity, security, and ability to resolve their issues peacefully.

Parent cooperation
We are all in this together, and as the proverb goes it takes a village to raise a child. Reykjavík City preschools make targeted efforts to consult with and increase parent involvement in preschool activities.
All Reykjavík City preschools have parent associations and parent councils.
The Center for Vesturborg
Vesturborg Preschool falls under West Center. West Center provides a wide range of services to the residents of Vesturbær, Miðborg, and Hlíðar and is a comprehensive information source for municipal services. The Center provides welfare services, school services to preschool and primary schools, day care and recreational counseling, and various other services.
Child prosperity
The Act on the Integration of Services in the Interest of Children’s Prosperity has come into effect. The goal is to ensure children and guardians receive the right assistance, at the right time, from the right parties.
Families and children in need of early support have guaranteed access to a prosperity contact in the child's immediate environment, such as in preschool or primary school. The prosperity contact offers information and guidance on services and ensures that children and guardians have unhindered access to these services.
Children, youth, and guardians can reach the school prosperity contact to request integrated services.
