The future vision of Reykjavík City is that through intensive school and recreation, children and adolescents acquire education and experience to realize their dreams and positively impact their environment and society.

Reykjavík City's Education Policy encourages us to develop school and recreational activities in a creative learning society that meets the needs of the 21st century. At the same time, it is intended to meet the challenges posed by constant environmental, societal, and technological changes.

The guiding principle of the recreational service policy is to offer varied and health-promoting after-school services that encourage active participation, creation, and a better community.

• Children gain a strong self-image, good social skills, belief in their abilities and accomplish
• They read for benefit and enjoyment, acquiring knowledge and understanding society and nature. They show initiative, creativity, and critical thinking and adopt a healthy lifestyle
• Children grow, thrive, and enjoy themselves together in a democratic society characterized by human rights and respect for the diversity of human life. They influence their learning, well-being, and environment
• The City's school and recreational activity staff are progressive, and they review their own practices, work together toward common goals and adopt new working practices and teaching styles
• The upbringing and education of children and teenagers is a social task. The families of children engaged in school and recreational activities are important collaborators for those working there and share responsibility with them for education
