Employment and prevention
Through a wide range of projects, the division works to strengthen the position of youth in the job market and promote prevention.
The division offers activity and job-search courses in various formats, as well as free employment counseling for young people ages 16-25. It also carries out preventative work, including peer education at Hitt Húsið Youth Center, and organizes fun group activities for anyone looking to meet new people.
The STYRKUR course
STYRKUR is a six-week physical fitness course for young people ages 16-20. For anyone looking to meet new people.
The course starts Oct. 20.

Recreation Course - Be Your Own G.O.A.T.
Hitt Húsið Youth Center offers young people ages 16-20 a 6-week recreation course in partnership with the Egill Hrafn Memorial Fund.
The course gives participants the opportunity to explore recreation and leisure activities available to youth in Reykjavík. It also emphasizes self-empowerment, goal setting and team building.

Summer Program Assistant Fund grant application
Reykjavík City's Summer Program Assistant Fund supports sports and youth organizations throughout the city. The goal is to expand summer job opportunities for youth ages 17-25 and support the delivery of recreation programs for children ages 6-12 during the summer.
Please note that the application period runs from Jan. 6 through Jan. 30, 2026.
Vinfús – weekly meetups
Hitt Húsið offers group activities for young people ages 16–22. Vinfús welcomes all young people looking to connect with others, including those who have become isolated at school or in other social settings.
Join us every Tuesday evening to share a meal and have fun!

Career counseling and job search courses
At Hitt Húsið, career counselors are available, and you can schedule a time for free career counseling either in-person at Hitt Húsið or online.
Youth on the unemployment register can also attend the job search classes Vitamin and University Vitamin.
Peer Education Center
Peer education consists of young people aged 16-20 who discuss with other youth issues such as self-esteem, sexuality, mental health, substance use, and more. The philosophy is that youth can connect with other youth in a way that others cannot.
