Cultural affairs

To create is to invent, experiment, grow, break rules, make mistakes and have fun. This definition fits well with the cultural activities that take place in Hitt Húsið. Activities that reflect youth culture in music, theater, visual arts, dance and other creative projects.

Music Experiments

Since 1982, Music Experiments has been a main platform for young Icelandic bands and musicians aged 13-25 to showcase their music.

 

Icelandic Music Experiments is a music festival that runs for one week in late March and early April each year.

Unglist

Unglist, a youth art festival, has been an annual event in fall in Reykjavík since 1992. The festival lasts for over a week each time with numerous participants and music lovers. The locations of events at the festival vary from year to year.

Street Theater

The Street Theater (Götuleikhúsið) has become well known among the public, as it has been operating during summers since 1994. Since then, the theater has nurtured a large group of young people, many of whom now work as well-known artists in various fields.

Art groups

Young people have the opportunity to apply and bring ideas for creative projects, and selected groups or individuals then get the chance to work on their ideas for eight weeks over the summer.

Gallery Raf

Hitt Húsið has a gallery where young artists can set up various kinds of exhibitions. Hitt Húsið has good facilities and equipment for young musicians to hold concerts and promote their music.

Public transport - Routes 3, 11, 12 and 17 stop at Blesugróf, then walk through Elliðaárdalur to Rafstöðvarvegur. Route 16 stops on Rafstöðvarvegur, about a 4-minute walk to Hitt Húsið.

Hours - 9am-6pm on weekdays. Closed weekends.
