Recreational activities for disabled people

We offers school-related recreational programs for disabled young people aged 16-20 who are in secondary school vocational programs. The main goal is to promote activity and social participation of young people in their free time. The program uses the local environment to train young people in independence, social skills and communication skills.

The program is based on individualized services that try to work with each person's strengths and always try to meet the different needs and interests of the young people. Activities take place between 1pm and 5pm on weekdays at Hitt Húsið on Rafstöðvarvegur.

We accept participants in care categories 1-3 as defined by the Social Insurance Administration. This application is for the start of the fall semester 2019.

Summer Program Assistant Fund

Reykjavík City's Summer Program Assistant Fund supports sports and youth organizations throughout the city. The fund has two main objectives:

  • To increase summer job opportunities for youth ages 17-25 in Reykjavík
  • To support recreation programs for children ages 6-12 during the summer months

This project aligns with Reykjavík City's prevention policy for children and youth and their parents, its sports policy through 2030, and its policy for youth ages 16 and older.

Sports and youth organizations based in Reykjavík are eligible to apply to the fund. Organizations must offer programs for children ages 6-12 during daytime hours when primary schools are closed for summer break.

Please note that the application period runs from Jan. 6 through Jan. 30, 2026
