Winter Lights Festival - About the Festival
About the Festival
The Winter Lights Festival is from February 6-9, 2025, in all six municipalities of the capital area. This festival of light and darkness has three main components: Museum Night, Pool Night, and light art installations, plus over 150 events where many artists create a unique atmosphere in the city.
All events are free of charge during the Winter Lights Festival.
Museum Night
On Museum Night, numerous museums across the capital area open their doors from 6pm to 11pm, offering fun and diverse programs. The focus will be on providing unconventional events during the evening and giving visitors a new perspective on the museums. City residents and visitors of all ages can enjoy Museum Nights into the evening for free.
Pool Night
On Pool Night, swimming is free from 5pm to 10pm in twelve capital area pools. Pool events are varied, letting guests experience a unique and unusual evening in magical darkness. Light, darkness, and joy will prevail, and guests are encouraged to participate by relaxing and enjoying the moment.
Light Trail
The Light Trail of the Winter Festival will play a key role. The trail is a walking path from Hallgrímskirkja down Skólavörðustígur and all the way down to Austurvöllur which will be surrounded by light art installations.
Light art installations will illuminate the city center from 6:30pm to 10:30pm throughout the Winter Lights Festival. Experience outdoor artwork with your loved ones at your own pace.
