About the Festival

Winter Lights Festival is from February 6-9, 2025 in all six municipalities of the capital area. This festival of light and darkness includes Museum Night, Pool Night, and the Light Trail, along with over 150 events where numerous artists help create a unique atmosphere in the city.

All events are free of charge during the Winter Lights Festival.

Museum Night

On Museum Night, February 7, many museums across the capital area open their doors and offer an entertaining and diverse program from 6pm to 11pm. The focus will be on unconventional events during the evening and giving visitors a new perspective on the museums. City residents and visitors of all ages can enjoy Museum Nights into the evening for free.

Pool Night

Pool Night will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, with free admission to Laugardalslaug Pool from 5pm to 11pm.

Visitors will experience a unique and unusual evening in captivating darkness. The event features amazing circus acts, troubadour Tómas Helgi performing Bakkasöngur, and DJ Fusion Groove.

For the first time, the geothermal beach will host activities during Pool Night. The program includes Hvalatjill (Whale Chill), music and more.

Light, darkness, and joy will prevail, and guests are encouraged to relax and enjoy the moment.

Light Trail

The Light Trail of the Winter Festival will play a key role. The trail is a walking path from Hallgrímskirkja down Skólavörðustígur and all the way to Austurvöllur which will be surrounded by 18 light art installations. The Light Trail artworks are by both local and international artists.

Light art installations will illuminate the city center from 6:30pm to 10:30pm throughout the Winter Lights Festival. Experience outdoor artworks at your own pace.

Reykjavík outdoor art app

Reykjavík Art Museum offers an app for Reykjavík Art Walk. Users can easily learn about all outdoor artworks managed by Reykjavík Art Museum on municipal land, as well as other work, listen to audio guides, and enjoy fun games.

The app is free to download for iOS and Android devices. It's available in Icelandic (Útilistaverk í Reykjavík) and English (Reykjavík Art Walk), based on device settings. The app is suitable for children and adults. Reykjavík Art Museum oversees about 200 outdoor artworks in the city. The app provides information about these works.
