Parking meters

Reykjavík Parking Service parking meters take coins and all major types of credit cards. The meters have card readers that read microprocessors and contactless card readers.

When do I pay?

Payment can be made via the parking meters before the payment period begins. Only the payment period counts so you can pay for several days at a time. This may, for example, be good in P3 where the first 2 hours are the most expensive.

There is no longer a need to put a ticket on the dashboard since the license plate is entered when paying, but if you need a sales receipt or a reminder time ticket you must select the option to print a receipt at the end.

Tickets from ticket meters are also valid at parking meters

  • Payment in P1 is valid in P1, P2, P3, and P4.

  • Payment in P2 is valid in P2, P3, and P4.

  • Payment in P3 is only valid in P3.

  • Payment in P4 is only valid in P4.

Switching on the meter

Don't insert your payment card into the meter until the on-screen instructions prompt you to do so.

Selecting a payment method

If you pay by cash, you insert coins in the meter until you have reached the amount and time you need.

 

If you'd like to pay by credit card, press the + sign.

Entering amount and time

Press OK when you have the correct amount and time/date.

Paying by credit card

Place the credit card next to the wireless reader or into the card reader.

 

Confirm that the correct amount is on the screen before you pay. Then choose whether you want to print a receipt.

You don't need to display a ticket on your dashboard, but it's a good idea to print one to remind yourself when your time expires.
