Nursery schools and nursery divisions in preschools
The City operates two nursery schools for children ages 12 months to 3 years at Bríetartún and Hallgerðargata.Several Reykjavík City preschools have nursery divisions. They have better conditions for caring for the youngest preschool children, such as heated floors, better changing facilities, and a designated playground.
Enrollment
Bríetartún and Hallgerðargata nursery schools accept children ages 12 to 24 months. If parents do not receive a spot for their child before age 24 months, the application transfers to another preschool of their choice. Children can stay in nursery schools until age 3. At the start of the year children in nursery schools turn 3, parents must apply to transfer them to other preschools for the coming school year.
Enrollment in preschool nursery divisions follows the general preschool enrollment process, offering openings to children in order by national ID number. The youngest children admitted stay in the nursery divisions.
