The values of Maríuborg are play, communication, and the joy of learning
Our philosophy and motto are based on theories of John Dewey, Howard Gardner, William Damon, and Daniel Goleman. We focus on promoting and stimulating children's play, teaching positive communication, and fostering the joy of learning, curiosity, and inquisitiveness. As a Green Flag Preschool, environmental education, sustainability, and nature conservation are also an important aspect of our curriculum and activities.

We are all in this together, and as the proverb goes it takes a village to raise a child. Reykjavík City preschools make targeted efforts to consult with and increase parent involvement in preschool activities. All Reykjavík City preschools have parent associations and parent councils.
Maríuborg Preschool falls under East Center. East Center provides a wide range of services to the residents of Árbær, Grafarholt, Grafarvogur, and Kjalarnes and is a comprehensive information source for municipal services. The Center provides welfare services, school services to preschool and primary schools, day care and recreational counseling, and various other services.
Portable housing was installed at the preschool in 2018, which accommodates study facilities for the oldest preschool children. That expansion was part of the Bridging the Gap development initiative, which aims to bridge the gap between parental leave and preschool.
