About the preschool
Dalskóli opened in the fall of 2010 with the preschool, primary school, and after-school program under one roof. The school is in the newest district of Reykjavík, which is still under development, and new school buildings were designed in the 2014-2016 school years. The preschool has 50 employees and 165 children stay there at a time. The preschool is divided into ten groups with Töfradalur, Huldudalur, Dvergadalur, Álfabjörg, Tröllabjörg, and Vættabjörg for the youngest children, and Fífudalur and Mosadalur for the older children.

Philosophy
The guiding principle of Dalskóli is "Happiness is a journey".
The preschool follows the Reggio Emilia philosophy, which emphasizes creative work. There is also a strong emphasis on outdoor learning for the children. The basic professional approach is that everyone should feel comfortable and supported at school so that children can learn, grow, and succeed. Special emphasis is placed on autonomy, initiative and creativity. Dalskóli is inclusive and all children are welcome there regardless of mental and physical abilities, culture, and religion.
Early childhood education
Parent cooperation
We are all in this together, and as the proverb goes it takes a village to raise a child. Reykjavík City preschools make targeted efforts to consult with and increase parent involvement in early childhood education.
All Reykjavík City preschools have parent associations and parent councils.
Child prosperity
The new Act on the Integration of Services in the Interest of Children’s Prosperity has come into effect. The goal is to ensure children and guardians receive the right assistance, at the right time, from the right parties.
Families and children in need of early support have guaranteed access to a prosperity liaison in the child's immediate environment, such as in preschool or primary school. The prosperity liaison offers information and guidance on services and ensures that children and guardians have unhindered access to these services.
Children, young people, and guardians can reach the school prosperity liaison to request integrated services.

Support services
Reykjavík City employs a team of professionals who provide school support services for preschools and primary schools, counseling on child care and recreational activities, welfare services, and other specialized counseling and services needed to help all children actively participate in Reykjavík City's school and recreational activities and make their dreams come true.
Development
Dalskóli preschool operates in two buildings. The older building opened in the winter of 2010-1011 and has six divisions, three of which are nursery divisions. The new school building has a preschool wing that started operations in 2020 for 90 children aged 4-6.
The expansion of the preschool was part of the Bridging the Gap development initiative, which aims to bridge the gap between parental leave and preschool.
