About the preschool
Ævintýraborg (Adventure City) Preschool on Nauthólsvegur 81 is a six-division preschool where around 100 children play and learn. Given its location, the school's early childhood education program is built around outdoor activities and learning, using Öskjuhlíð as the primary setting for the children's play and learning. Operations began in September 2022. City of Reykjavík preschools follow the National Preschool Curriculum with reference to the Reykjavík City Education Policy. It focuses on encouraging children's discovery and play and making them active participants in a democratic society.

Philosophy
At Ævintýraborg on Nauthólsvegur, we emphasize place-based learning that builds on children's own experiences in their immediate surroundings.
The preschool has an exceptional location at the base of Öskjuhlíð, and the forest is used extensively for play, exploration, and creativity. We believe it's essential for children to have ample outdoor experiences and the freedom to move, as this is key to how they learn about themselves and the world around them.
Children take field trips on foot and by city bus, where they discover both the nature within the city and urban culture. Our approach encourages children to experiment and use all their senses to explore their environment.
Our goal is to spark children's natural curiosity and original thinking, helping them realize their full potential so they can become creative, critical, and independent thinkers in modern society.
Support services
Reykjavík City employs a team of professionals who provide school support services for preschools and primary schools, counseling on child care and recreational activities, welfare services, and other specialized counseling and services needed to help all children actively participate in Reykjavík City's school and recreational activities and make their dreams come true.
Parent cooperation
We are all in this together, and as the proverb goes it takes a village to raise a child. Reykjavík City preschools make targeted efforts to consult with and increase parent involvement in early childhood education.
All Reykjavík City preschools have parent associations and parent councils.
Child prosperity
The new Act on the Integration of Services in the Interest of Children’s Prosperity has come into effect. The goal is to ensure children and guardians receive the right assistance, at the right time, from the right parties.
Families and children in need of early support have guaranteed access to a prosperity liaison in the child's immediate environment, such as in preschool or primary school. The prosperity liaison offers information and guidance on services and ensures that children and guardians have unhindered access to these services.
Children, young people, and guardians can reach the school prosperity liaison to request integrated services.
