About the preschool

Klambrar is open from 7:45am to 4:30pm

Klambrar Preschool began operating in May 2002 and has approximately 35 employees. The preschool is located on the ground floor of a university housing complex, located to the east of Háteigskirkja and south of the Seamen's College (Sjómannaskólinn). Miklatún, where the preschool is located, was once known as Klambratún after a farm that used to be in the area. Although the preschool is not located in the exact same spot as the former farm, it is close enough that the field can be easily used for outdoor activities by both children and staff. Klambrar has 95 children at the same time in five groups. The divisions are called Engi, Dalur, Hlíð, Holt, Teigur, and Tún.

Philosophy

The values of Klambrar are joy, friendship, and creativity

Klambrar follows an educational philosophy known as the "Klambrar Spirit," which is divided into three key components: Safety and Trust, Work Satisfaction and Positivity, and Critical and Creative Thinking. The preschool provides children with play materials that allow them to utilize their natural abilities to create and play in their own way. There are therefore few traditional toys with predetermined solutions.

Early childhood education

Parent cooperation

We are all in this together, and as the proverb goes it takes a village to raise a child. Reykjavík City preschools make targeted efforts to consult with and increase parent involvement in early childhood education. All Reykjavík City preschools have parent associations and parent councils.

The Center for Klambrar

Klambrar Preschool falls under West Center. West Center provides a wide range of services to the residents of Vesturbær, Miðborg, and Hlíðar and is a comprehensive information source for municipal services. The Center provides welfare services, school services to preschool and primary schools, day care and recreational counseling, and various other services.

Child prosperity

The Act on the Integration of Services in the Interest of Children’s Prosperity has come into effect. The goal is to ensure children and guardians receive the right assistance, at the right time, from the right parties. Families and children in need of early support have guaranteed access to a prosperity liaison in the child's immediate environment, such as in preschool or primary school. The prosperity liaison offers information and guidance on services and ensures that children and guardians have unhindered access to these services. Children, youth, and guardians can reach the school prosperity liaison to request integrated services.
