About the preschool
Hamrar Preschool officially opened on February 20, 2001. It is in the middle of Víkurhverfi and, therefore, close to the shoreline and good walking routes nearby that are often used. There are four groups at the preschool: Álfaberg, Dvergasteinn, Hulduhóll, and Tröllabjarg. There are about 85 children in the preschool.

Philosophy
The motto of the preschool is positivity, respect, and cooperation
The national preschool curriculum is based on the ideas of theorists such as Piaget, Dewey, Vygotsky, and Bateson. Nes Preschool works in this spirit and also has a focus on play and childhood literacy. Play is the children's main way of learning and therefore the primary focus of the preschool. Children's expression is naturally free and spontaneous through play, and it serves as the foundation for all aspects of their preschool education.

Parent cooperation
We are all in this together, and as the proverb goes it takes a village to raise a child. Reykjavík City preschools make targeted efforts to consult with and increase parent involvement in early childhood education. All Reykjavík City preschools have parent associations and parent councils.
Support services
Reykjavík City employs a team of professionals who provide school support services for preschools and primary schools, counseling on child care and recreational activities, welfare services, and other specialized counseling and services needed to help all children actively participate in Reykjavík City's school and recreational activities and make their dreams come true.
Child prosperity
The new Act on the Integration of Services in the Interest of Children’s Prosperity has come into effect. The goal is to ensure children and guardians receive the right assistance, at the right time, from the right parties.
Families and children in need of early support have guaranteed access to a prosperity liaison in the child's immediate environment, such as in preschool or primary school. The prosperity liaison offers information and guidance on services and ensures that children and guardians have unhindered access to these services.
Children, young people, and guardians can reach the school prosperity liaison to request integrated services.
