Reykjavík Residency – City of Literature
Reykjavík Writes
Reykjavík UNESCO City of Literature: Now accepting applications for the “Reykjavík Residency” 2025.
We’re inviting a journalist or scholar from Seattle, a fellow UNESCO City of Literature, to spend 2–4 weeks exploring and writing about contemporary literature in Reykjavík in 2025. City of Literature Reykjavík will cover flights, accommodation at Gröndal’s House, and provide a daily stipend of up to €1,200.
The selected writer will produce a high-caliber piece focused on Reykjavík’s contemporary literary scene. This could include emerging authors, established writers, booksellers, or publishers—but the focus must be on contemporary Icelandic literature. The final work must have a confirmed publication platform and will be translated for publication in Iceland.
The aim of the project is to encourage ambitious writing about Reykjavík’s literary culture in a contemporary context. The goal is to run the residency annually, inviting participants from different UNESCO Cities of Literature each year.
The residency is open to experienced authors, editors, translators, poets, critics, literary scholars, journalists, and academics affiliated with Seattle City of Literature.
