Description of the action and objectives
Green Deal action
CityLine is a high-quality public transportation system for the entire capital area. CityLine will connect well with public buses coming from neighboring municipalities. It mainly runs in private lanes with priority at intersections, increasing both reliability and efficiency.
Implementation period
Planned completion in the second half of 2025
Status report on January 1, 2024
Work continues on the first phase of CityLine. Pre-design is well underway. The land-use plan description for CityLine on Suðurlandsbraut was published in 2023. Work on the land-use plan for CityLine will continue in 2024. The detailed design for Fossvogur Bridge is progressing well. Work on the bridge fillings is expected to start in 2024, with the bridge development scheduled to go out for tender later that year.

Design work is ongoing for phase 1, divided into smaller parts. Reykjavík City has received all the so-called "inception" reports, which describe the pre-design assumptions. The City has submitted feedback on most reports and is working on comments for the remaining ones. Pre-design work has started or is about to start on all parts, with significant progress on the most advanced sections. Detailed design is ongoing for the Fossvogur land reclamation and bridge. The next phase of the design work is expected to begin in February next year. |
