Several reasons we observe International Women's Day on March 8 each year and the global situation for women in 2019

  • 62 million girls worldwide do not have access to education
  • Each year, about 15 million girls under the age of 18 are married without having a say in the matter
  • 4 out of every 5 victims of human trafficking in the world are girls and women
  • It is estimated that up to 70% of people in low-wage jobs worldwide are women
  • In the United Kingdom, working mothers on average spend 15 hours a week on household chores while fathers spend about 5 hours
