Idea search for planning of the Borgarspítali site (City Hospital), Sóleyjarrimi and Safamýri
Description of the action and objectives
Green Deal action
Implementation period
Planned completion in the second half of 2025
Status report on July 1, 2025
Plans for mixed-use development at the Borgarspítali site were dropped. A planning description was advertised in 2024, but the formal land-use planning process never began. A decision was made to place the National University Hospital's new psychiatric ward on the site. The planning description is nearly complete and will be advertised in early September 2025.
An idea search was conducted for the Sóleyjarimi site during summer 2024, and an agreement was reached with the winners to continue work on the land-use plan. This work is nearly finished and should be advertised in fall 2025.
Preparation for a competition covering the Safamýri area has not yet begun. Two issues are at play: the area might be needed as a staging site for Miklabraut tunnel construction, and the land-use planning department has a full project schedule.
