Description of the action and objectives
Green Deal action
A municipal plan amendment for the area that considers climate criteria will be developed in 2024. Additional guidelines and regulations will be established for forestry on farms and agricultural areas, as well as other open land. Furthermore, land reclamation provisions will be considered, and goals for wetland recovery will be established. Goals and regulations will be developed based on climate policy and will apply to land owned by the city as well as land owned by others.

A working group is reviewing the municipal plan for Kjalarnes, and work began in spring 2025 on a neighborhood plan for Grundarhverfi and surrounding areas. Open resident forums for municipal and neighborhood planning were held April 29-30, 2025, to provide a platform for dialogue, information exchange, and active resident participation in shaping the area's future. The City aims to present a draft municipal plan amendment and a draft proposal for the neighborhood plan by the end of 2025.
