At the Virknihus Activity Center, people have many options for rehabilitation to get a job or to increase their activity and participation levels. The goal is always to improve people’s quality of life and increase their opportunities in life, focusing on self-empowerment, learning and recovery.
Many people with disabilities possess valuable experience and knowledge that can be used in a variety of jobs, but sometimes they require assistance or working facilities, accessibility, working hours and tasks that meet their needs, generally called reasonable accommodations.
Through home-based rehabilitation, people receive training and counseling to suit their needs. The rehabilitation is largely carried out at the users’ home or in their local environment. It is for people who have applied for social home care or residential care when the assessment shows that the rehabilitation will likely be successful.
The Adult Educational Center of Reykjavík City offers learning and vocational guidance to Reykjavik residents over the age of 16. The emphasis is on finding suitable learning opportunities for everyone to empower them and improve their quality of life.
