About Vinafell
Students in 1st and 2nd grade of Fellaskóli participate in a combination of school and recreational activities until 3:40pm. Afterward, there is the option to enroll children in after-school programs until 5pm. This integrative approach to schooling is called "1, 2 and Fellaskóli." All the children take part in organized school and recreational activities until 3:40pm, providing a comprehensive service to children and their parents. The aim is to increase the time children spend in an Icelandic-speaking environment and to enhance their social skills.
The Vinafell after-school program offers a fee-based service from 3:40pm to 5pm. Vinafell is open on teachers’ professional days, as well as during the Christmas and Easter holidays of Fellaskóli. It is closed during the winter break and on professional development days for the after-school program. Vinafell operates a seven-week summer after-school program during Fellaskóli's summer holidays.
3rd and 4th graders can participate in recreational activities at Hraunheimar, a joint after-school program for Fellaskóli and Hólabrekkuskóli.
Bryndís Snorradóttir, Head of Division for younger grades, and the integrated school and recreational activities, is in charge of the after-school program, with Sara Mist Jóhannsdóttir as the Assistant Director.
Extended attendance
On professional development days, parent conference days, and during Christmas and Easter holidays, Vinafell is open all day from 8am to 5pm with prior registration. There is an additional charge for extended stays on these days. Vinafell is closed during the school's winter holidays.
Daily activities
The diverse activities of the after-school program are designed according to each child's needs and interests. Vinafell after-school program plays a vital role in implementing the vision of Fellaskóli's Dream School, emphasizing language and literacy, music, and creativity.
