Description of the action and objectives
Green Deal action
A design competition aims to improve Laugardalslaug Pool along with its grandstand and outdoor areas to create a public health and cultural center. A community gathering place where different activities come together, with a focus on providing quality public services. All design and improvements must consider environmentally friendly solutions and standards, with a focus on recycling and sustainability in line with Green Deal principles. The design competition will take place in two phases and will be held in consultation with the Architects Association of Iceland.

Planned completion in the first half of 2026

| January 2024 | Work on the instructions is finishing up. A design competition for renovations at Laugardalslaug Pool has not started yet but is planned to begin early in 2024. There are plans to renew the pool basin and pots in the outdoor area, along with improving recreational facilities for children of all ages. There are also ideas for redoing the grandstand of the pool. |

Preparation for the Design Competition is underway by the Property Office at Reykjavík City's Department of Finance & Risk Management. |
| January 2023 | The preliminary design is ready, but there is a competition pending for the final design, set to take place in 2023. Construction is scheduled to start in 2024. |
| July 2022 | At the beginning of this year, almost twelve hundred ideas were submitted during an open idea generation regarding the renovation of Laugardalslaug Pool. In 2023, a design competition for Laugardalslaug Pool and its related structures will be held in collaboration with the Architects Association of Iceland. Construction is scheduled to start in 2024. |
