Description of the action and objectives
Green Deal action
This development in the capital region ski areas follows a 2018 municipality arrangement outlining construction in Bláfjöll and Skálafell. In 2023, it's anticipated that two new ski lifts in Bláfjöll will be operational and construction for snow production commenced.
Implementation period
Planned completion in the second half of 2026
Status report on January 1, 2024
The ski lifts are open, and snow production has started. Development in Skálafell has been postponed until 2025.

The ski lifts were ready and delivered around New Year's 2022/2023, and now work is underway on installing snow production in Bláfjöll. The goal is to complete this work by November 2023. |
January 2023 | The lifts called The Queen (Drottningin) and The Jack (Gosinn) are operational. |
July 2022 | Work on installing new ski lifts has begun and the estimated completion is in the spring of 2023. Work on snow production will begin in 2023 in Bláfjöll and in 2026 in Skálafell. |
