Mutual understanding between Reykjavík City and the business sector

Description of the action and objectives

Green Deal action

Active dialogue and information sharing between Reykjavík City and the business community need to be strengthened to build a shared vision for the future. This will be accomplished in part by organizing business forums where the city and business community can discuss shared challenges and opportunities. Efforts will be made to improve communication with the business community, companies and entrepreneurs about the city's development, projects and plans. Additionally, a primary point of contact needs to be established for companies looking to start, expand or develop operations in the city.

Implementation period

Planned completion in the second half of 2024

Status: In progress

Status report on July 1, 2024

Follow-up work has been conducted on the consultation meeting about competitiveness held at Höfði on November 24, 2023. A shared vision for the future must be developed, infrastructure development accelerated, and support for innovation strengthened. These were the main outcomes of the first-ever business forum, hosted by the mayor and the President of City Council at Höfði. Representatives from Reykjavík City, the business community, universities, clusters and labor unions gathered to discuss how to enhance Reykjavík's global competitiveness and create a city where innovation flourishes. The 2024 Business Forum is currently in development.

An open information meeting with the mayor – Economic and Urban Development 2024 – took place May 22, 2024. The meeting provided an overview of the current state of infrastructure development and business environment in Reykjavík. The address receives multiple emails from businesses each week, indicating successful implementation.
