Healthy Environment for the Economy and Innovation

Description of the action and objectives

Green Deal action

We aim to strengthen the innovation culture at Reykjavík City and improve services for businesses and entrepreneurs by making them simpler, more digital, accessible and predictable, while building reliable and efficient infrastructure aligned with the needs of the business and innovation community. We accomplish this in part by supporting Iceland Innovation Week, allocating a portion of departmental funding to improvement and innovation projects, revising procurement frameworks to create opportunities for more parties, and enhancing services for businesses through digital application processes.

Implementation period

Planned completion in the second half of 2024

Status: Completed

Status report on July 1, 2025

Reykjavík City has strengthened partnerships with key innovation stakeholders through renewed agreements and active project participation. The City finalized agreements with the University of Iceland on Startup Social and participates in the accelerator's steering group. Agreements were also reviewed and renewed with Innovation Week and approved by the City Executive Council. The City actively participated in the festival with its own events, promotional efforts, and support.

Collaboration with Climate-KIC continued through the Supply-Demand innovation workshop, which resulted in a report and follow-up actions. The city also participated in the universities' Idea Sprint by providing challenges and advice, and had representatives in the steering groups of The Golden Egg and Hringiða.
