Reykjavík Parking Service
Here you'll find everything about paid parking and parking garages operated by Reykjavík City. Here you can pay for parking spaces and parking penalty fees, as well as submit requests for reviews. Residents who live in paid parking zones and operators are eligible for parking permits if they meet certain conditions. More information on these permits is available below.
In the latter half of 2025, resident parking permit rules were updated, authorizing a second resident parking permit. The City Executive Council also approved parking permit rules for operators and parking permit rules for car-share vehicles.

Parking citations
There are two types of parking citations, extra parking tariffs, and parking violation charges. Extra parking tariffs (commonly referred to as parking tickets) are imposed when paid parking has not been paid for. Parking violation charges, in turn, are imposed when a car or other vehicle is parked illegally.
Resident parking permits
A resident parking permit is a parking card for people living in areas where parking is subject to charges. Holders of resident parking permits can park a car free of charge in paid parking within the area of validity of their card.
Obligation to pay
Parking your car doesn’t always cost the same. There are 4 different tariff zones and the pricing varies from zone to zone. Here you can view a map of the zones, how much it costs, and how to pay.
Parking for people of reduced mobility
People with reduced mobility who have difficulty getting to and from public parking may be eligible for a parking card. With a parking card, individuals with reduced mobility can park in designated spaces and park for free in paid parking spaces. The card also allows for free parking in parking garages operated by Reykjavík City.
Parking garage
You can apply for long-term parking in the City's parking garages for cars in daily use. Please note that it is not possible to provide an exact estimate of the wait time for a long-term parking space. See more information about parking garage waitlists below.
