Markmið fyrir nýtt aðalsafn Borgarbókasafnsins:

Open Space for All – A Democratic Platform Guided by Sustainability and Innovation

  • That the City Library's new main library will be a living cultural and community house, a platform for democracy with sustainability and innovation in mind for the people of Reykjavik. It is a true Open Space for all, taking into account the artificial functioning of libraries in modern society.
  • Redesigning the museum to accommodate the future needs of Reykjavik's residents and offer access to information, experiences and services like new libraries in many overseas capitals that we want to compare with, while taking into account Icelandic culture and characteristics.
  • That the library becomes its touchstone in the provision of digital and human services, a neutral platform for co-creation where we dare to think things over again, so that we can respond quickly to the rapid changes in society and the needs of the city's citizens.
  • Actively engage residents in creating a setting, experience, and program for a new collection in collaboration with the house's design team. The reshaping will see the Library as a living platform where ongoing developments in activities and changes will be expected in collaboration with the population.
  • An ambitious, realistic and exciting proposal that is well suited to the environment, it is a historic building. Environmental considerations, sustainability, and eco-design are required to guide design and material selection. The aim is for the building to be eco-certified with BREEAM.

The City of Reykjavik and the City Library work with design thinking and will focus on participation and collaboration with City of Reykjavik residents in the design process.
