About Stjörnuland
The after-school program, Stjörnuland, is open to 1st to 4th graders from Ingunnarskóli and is operated by the recreation center Brúin.
Director: Árni Þór Jónsson
Assistant director: Stella Tong Haraldsdóttir
Extended attendance
On professional development days, parent conference days, and during Christmas and Easter holidays, Stjörnuland is open all day from 8am to 5pm with prior registration. There is an additional charge for extended stays on these days. Stjörnuland is closed during the school's winter holidays.
Daily activities
Stjörnuland holds children's council meetings every month. Different children attend the meetings each month to ensure all children have the opportunity to participate in the council. At these meetings, the children are able to express their opinions about what they want to do in the program. At the end of the meeting, we decide on a day for them to choose the afternoon snack and the fruit selection, along with theme of the day.
At the end of each month, there is a birthday party for the birthday children of that month. Birthday children of the month receive birthday table decorations, birthday recognition along with a birthday medal around their neck, with a birthday greeting. And of course, birthday cake is served after the afternoon snack.

Bullying in school and recreational activities
Bullying and violence can have a lasting impact on the psyche of children and adolescents. It should not be accepted school and recreational activities. All workplaces for children and adolescents have an anti-bullying plan. Parents who receive indications or information about bullying should take it seriously and report it to the relevant parties. Workplaces of the Department of Education & Youth of Reykjavík City operate according to a bullying checklist developed in extensive consultation with professionals.
Disruption to school and recreational activities
Officials have issued recommendations for parents and guardians of children in schools and recreational activities. Capital area municipalities have assigned SHS to monitor weather conditions and forecasts and send out alerts when needed, working with police and education authorities as appropriate.
Child prosperity
The Act on the Integration of Services in the Interest of Children’s Prosperity has come into effect. The goal is to ensure children and guardians receive the right assistance, at the right time, from the right parties. Families and children in need of early support have guaranteed access to a prosperity liaison in the child's immediate environment, such as in preschool or primary school. The prosperity liaison offers information and guidance on services and ensures that children and guardians have unhindered access to these services. Children, youth, and guardians can reach the school prosperity liaison to request integrated services.
Information on the prosperity contacts for children at the Stjörnuland after-school program can be found on the website of Ingunnarskóli.
