Today, the City Executive Council unanimously agreed to support children in Palestine with ISK 150 for every Reykjavík child aged 0-18. Thus, Reykjavík City will support UNICEF with ISK 4.5 million.

Líf Magneudóttir, a listening representative of the Left-Greens in the City Executive Council, presented the following proposal: In light of the terrible conflicts and humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the City Executive Council agrees to support emergency aid for Palestinian children with about ISK 100 for every Reykjavík child aged 0-18.”

In its meeting this morning, the City Executive Council approved the proposal with the amendment that the contribution was increased from ISK 100 to ISK 150 for every Reykjavík child. Subsequently, a record was presented by all City Executive Council representatives: "The horrifying conflicts in Palestine in recent months have had terrible effects on innocent citizens, especially impacting children. Civilians are lacking in food, water, medicine, and other necessities. In light of this, the City Executive Council agrees to support the UNICEF emergency collection for children in Gaza, as the organization advocates for children's rights and works on behalf of all children, who often suffer the most in conflicts. The City Executive Council supports the collection with ISK 150 for every Reykjavík child aged 0-18. The total amount is ISK 4.5 million."
