Practical information
Bullying in school and recreational activities
Bullying and violence can have a lasting impact on the psyche of children and adolescents. It should not be accepted school and recreational activities. All workplaces for children and adolescents have an anti-bullying plan. Parents who receive indications or information about bullying should take it seriously and report it to the relevant parties. Workplaces of the Department of Education & Youth of Reykjavík City operate according to a bullying checklist developed in extensive consultation with professionals.
Disruption to school and recreational activities
Officials have issued recommendations for parents and guardians of children in schools and recreational activities. Capital area municipalities have assigned SHS to monitor weather conditions and forecasts and send out alerts when needed, working with police and education authorities as appropriate.
Summer hours
Mondays: 7:30-10:30 p.m. – joint
Wednesdays: 7:30-10:30 p.m. – joint
Fridays: 7:30-10:30 p.m. — joint
Youth centers sometimes join together for summer activities, so it's important to check social media for current locations. Location information for summer activities for children ages 10-12 is shared through advertisements and emails to parents.
General meetings
We hold monthly general meetings open to all adolescents in the neighborhood. They shape the youth center's activities and create the monthly schedule. It's also an opportunity to suggest events or trips and discuss what they want to purchase or change in the youth center.
Child prosperity
The new Act on the Integration of Services in the Interest of Children’s Prosperity has come into effect. The goal is to ensure children and guardians receive the right assistance, at the right time, from the right parties. Families and children in need of early support have guaranteed access to a prosperity liaison in the child's immediate environment, such as in preschool or primary school. The prosperity liaison offers information and guidance on services and ensures that children and guardians have unhindered access to these services. Children, youth, and guardians can reach the school prosperity liaison to request integrated services.
Information on the prosperity contacts for children at the Hólmasel after-school program can be found on the websites of Ölduselsskóli and Seljaskóli.
