About Fókus

Fókus is a rainbow-certified youth center celebrating diversity. It offers clubs and workshops like Sportó (sports), Bellanet (building girls' confidence), D&D club (role playing club) and Art Workshop club. We also organize trips for adolescents, with the ski trip being the largest. There's also an 8th grade trip each fall at the beginning of the school year. We also host sleepovers at the center, which are always exciting.

Fókus youth center is part of Brúin Recreation Center. The target group is children and adolescents in grades 5-10 at Ingunnarskóli.

Practical information

Bullying in school and recreational activities

Bullying and violence can have a lasting impact on the psyche of children and adolescents. It should not be accepted school and recreational activities. All workplaces for children and adolescents have an anti-bullying plan. Parents who receive indications or information about bullying should take it seriously and report it to the relevant parties. Workplaces of the Department of Education & Youth of Reykjavík City operate according to a bullying checklist developed in extensive consultation with professionals.

Disruption to school and recreational activities

Officials have issued recommendations for parents and guardians of children in schools and recreational activities. Capital area municipalities have assigned SHS to monitor weather conditions and forecasts and send out alerts when needed, working with police and education authorities as appropriate.

Child prosperity

The new Act on the Integration of Services in the Interest of Children’s Prosperity has come into effect. The goal is to ensure children and guardians receive the right assistance, at the right time, from the right parties. Families and children in need of early support have guaranteed access to a prosperity liaison in the child's immediate environment, such as in preschool or primary school. The prosperity liaison offers information and guidance on services and ensures that children and guardians have unhindered access to these services. Children, youth, and guardians can reach the school prosperity liaison to request integrated services.

Information on the prosperity contacts for children at the Fókus youth center can be found on the website of Ingunnarskóli.
