Preschool
Úlfarsbraut 118–122
113 Reykjavík
Dalskóli opened in the fall of 2010 with the preschool, elementary school, and after-school program under one roof. The school is in the newest district of Reykjavík, which is still under development, and new school buildings were designed in the 2014-2016 school years. The preschool has 50 employees and 165 children stay there at a time. The preschool is divided into eight groups with Töfradalur, Huldudalur, Dvergadalur, Álfabjörg, Tröllabjörg, and Vættabjörg for the youngest children, and Fífudalur and Mosadalur for the older children.
Director of the Preschool: Sigrún Ásta Gunnlaugsdóttir
Want to know more about Dalskóli? In this very short video, we give a glimpse of the preschool activities. It was made by Erla Stefánsdóttir and Antonía Lárusdóttir for the Department of Education & Youth.
The guiding principle of Dalskóli is "Happiness is a journey".
The preschool follows the Reggio Emilia philosophy, which emphasizes creative work. There is also a strong emphasis on outdoor learning for the children. The basic professional approach is that everyone should feel comfortable and supported at school so that children can learn, grow, and succeed. Special emphasis is placed on autonomy, initiative and creativity. Dalskóli is inclusive and all children are welcome there regardless of mental and physical abilities, culture, and religion.
What's ahead for Dalskóli? In the operational plan, you'll find, among other things, the school's internal and external evaluations for the last year, an improvement plan, the preschool calendar, and much more.

We are all in this together, and as the proverb goes it takes a village to raise a child. Reykjavík City preschools make targeted efforts to consult with and increase parent involvement in preschool activities. All Reykjavík City preschools have parent associations and parent councils.
Dalskóli falls under East Center. East Center provides a wide range of services to the residents of Árbær, Grafarholt, Grafarvogur, and Kjalarnes and is a comprehensive information source for municipal services. The Center provides welfare services, school services to preschool and primary schools, day care and recreational counseling, and various other services.
The preschool activities in Dalskóli take place in two buildings. The older building opened in the winter of 2010-1011 and has six divisions, three of which are nursery divisions. The new school building has a preschool wing that started operations in 2020 for 90 children aged 4-6.
The expansion of the preschool was part of the Bridging the Gap development initiative, which aims to bridge the gap between parental leave and preschool.
The Act on the Integration of Services in the Interest of Children’s Prosperity has come into effect. The goal is to ensure children and guardians receive the right assistance, at the right time, from the right parties. Families and children in need of early support have guaranteed access to a contact person in the child's immediate environment, such as in preschool or primary school. The contact person offers information and guidance on services and ensures that children and guardians have unhindered access to these services. Children, youth, and guardians can contact the school contact person to request integrated services.
The contact persons for Dalskóli Preschool are: Guðný Guðlaugsdóttir and Lárey Valbjörnsdóttir
