The values of Seljakot are initiative, creativity, and expression
Our work with children incorporates the ideology of Reggio Emilia in Italy, which is known for promoting creative work and critical thinking. The emphasis is on providing children with opportunities to use as many of their talents as possible, so they can grow into creative, critical, and independent individuals. When working within this framework, the process is most important, as it allows for the child's perception, curiosity, and imagination to flourish.
Do you want to know more about the philosophy and daily operations of Seljakot? In the school curriculum and parent guide, you'll find detailed information about the school's philosophical emphasis and approach to play, learning, and work.
What's ahead for Seljakot? In the operational plan, you'll find, among other things, the school's internal and external evaluations for the last year, an improvement plan, the preschool calendar, and much more.
When does Seljakot have professional development days? In the preschool calendar, you'll find information about days off and various other details.
We are all in this together, and as the proverb goes it takes a village to raise a child. Reykjavík City preschools make targeted efforts to consult with and increase parent involvement in preschool activities. All Reykjavík City preschools have parent associations and parent councils.
Seljakot Preschool falls under South Center. South Center provides a wide range of services to the residents of Breiðholt and is a comprehensive information source for municipal services. The Center provides welfare services, school services to preschool and primary schools, day care and recreational counseling, and various other services.
The Act on the Integration of Services in the Interest of Children’s Prosperity has come into effect. The goal is to ensure children and guardians receive the right assistance, at the right time, from the right parties. Families and children in need of early support have guaranteed access to a contact person in the child's immediate environment, such as in preschool or primary school. The contact person offers information and guidance on services and ensures that children and guardians have unhindered access to these services. Children, youth, and guardians can contact the school contact person to request integrated services.
The contact person for Seljakot is: Guðbjörg Oddsdóttir

Two portable buildings were installed at the preschool in 2019, where the youngest preschoolers stay. That expansion was part of the Bridging the Gap development initiative, which aims to bridge the gap between parental leave and preschool. As a result, the preschool has expanded considerably in the past 2-3 years and the staffing facilities have been improved significantly.
