Mayor's Neighborhood Days in Laugardalur

Mayor Heiða Björg Hilmisdóttir will visit city neighborhoods over the coming weeks and months.

During Neighborhood Days, the mayor will visit public schools and other city facilities, meet with local city staff, talk with residents and representatives from community organizations, sports clubs and parent associations, and host open events where people can discuss issues with her and senior city officials.

Neighborhood Days in Laugardalur will be Feb. 23-27.

Neighborhood profile

Laugardalur is the city's second most populous district, with nearly 20,000 residents. Nearly 20,000 people live there.

The neighborhood features extensive school and community activities, along with excellent sports facilities. Laugardalur is at the heart of the neighborhood where residents enjoy outdoor recreation and exercise in many different ways. The area boasts excellent facilities for various sports, notably Laugardalsvöllur Stadium, Laugardalshöll Arena, Þróttur training areas, and Laugardalslaug Pool. There's also a 10-hole disc golf course.

The neighborhood offers diverse entertainment like the Laugardalur Ice Rink and Reykjavík Family Park & Zoo, an amusement park and zoo in the heart of the city. It's also an ideal place to visit the botanic garden, where you can find about 5,000 Icelandic and foreign plants.

Schedule for the mayor's visit

During Neighborhood Days, Mayor Heiða Björg Hilmisdóttir will visit Háteigsskóli, Hlíðaskóli and the junior colleges in Hamrahlíð.

She will meet with representatives from the schools' parent associations and speak with school administrators and other staff members. She will also learn about other city activities in the neighborhood and meet with community organizations and sports club representatives.

On Tuesday, Feb. 24, residents are invited for coffee and conversation at Sólheimar City Library. This offers a great opportunity to discuss issues with the mayor and representatives from Reykjavík City senior administration.
