Mayor Heiða Björg Hilmisdóttir will visit city neighborhoods over the coming weeks and months. Neighborhood Days begin in Grafarholt and Úlfarsárdalur on Monday, Sept. 8.

During Neighborhood Days, the mayor will visit public schools and other city facilities, meet with local city staff, talk with residents and representatives from community organizations, sports clubs and parent associations, and host open events where people can discuss issues with her and senior city officials.

A neighborhood within walking distance of natural gems

Neighborhood Days begin in Grafarholt and Úlfarsárdalur, where one of the area's main features is its exceptional proximity to nature. The area features natural gems like Reynisvatn, Hólmsheiði and Rauðavatn, which create endless opportunities for outdoor activities and exercise. Popular biking and walking trails run throughout the area, and walkers of all ages visit Úlfarsfell mountain. The excellent Fram sports facilities are located in Úlfarsárdalur, facilities for horse enthusiasts are in Almannadalur, there's a disc golf course in Grafarholt, and don't forget the first-class golf course.

Mayor Heiða Björg will visit Dalskóli, Ingunnarskóli and Sæmundarskóli. She will meet with representatives from the schools' parent associations and talk with school administrators, managers from the Department of Welfare and other staff. She will also learn about other municipal services in the neighborhood and meet with community organizations, sports club representatives and take a swim in Dalslaug pool.

Chat and walk

On Monday, Sept. 8, residents are invited to join a neighborhood walk and chat, which provides a great opportunity to discuss issues with the mayor and senior city officials.

Coffee and hot chocolate will be provided, and people who can't participate in the walk will have a chance to chat with the mayor beforehand.

The group will meet in the parking lot at Sæmundarskóli at 5 p.m.

Mayor Heiða Björg looks forward to visiting the neighborhoods and is excited to meet residents of Grafarholt and Úlfarsárdalur on Monday.

"It is incredibly valuable and always educational for those of us who run the city to meet the people we work for. I hope as many people as possible will come and walk with us on Monday by Reynisvatn because there's nothing better than a good walk to chat together and discuss what matters most to people."
