About 200,000 people visit Reykjavík Botanic Garden each year, and officials reported that 2025 set a new record for participation in educational programs at the garden. This marked the first time attendance surpassed the 6,000-person milestone, and by a comfortable margin — the total number participating in programs and events at the garden exceeded 6,800 people. Education at the Botanic Garden serves everyone from preschool children starting at age 2 all the way up to seniors in their 90s.

Over the past year, the garden offered programs in several languages beyond Icelandic, most notably regular educational events in English, along with talks about the garden and plants in Spanish and Ukrainian with help from the garden's community partners.

Museum Night event

The garden's 2026 season will begin with its first event of the year, the flashlight walk "Enchanting Trees in Magnificent Darkness" during Museum Night on Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. The walk will explore magic, myths and cultural traditions connected to specific tree species found throughout the garden. This walk, suitable for all ages, will feature tales of love, underworlds, immortality, Cinderella and powerful magic wands.
