Homeless people

When people’s situations are complex and demanding it is important to support them having a better life. The City of Reykjavík offers a wide range of support to people who are homeless and have problems with drugs or mental health. Support for homeless people is based on the philosophy of Housing First and Harm Reduction.

Emergency shelters

There are three emergency shelters for homeless people in Reykjavík. They are open every day from 5 pm to 10 am the next day. Dinner and breakfast are provided and the VoR Team and emergency shelters’ teams offer services and support. Each emergency shelter has accommodations for a fixed number of people.

On-Site Consulting Team

The VoR Team (on-site consulting team) assists people who are homeless and have substance abuse and mental health problems. The team provides individualized on-site advice and support.

Housing for homeless people

The City of Reykjavík owns housing for people with complex needs who receive the services of the VoR Team. These include rooming houses, apartment complexes, single apartments and tiny houses.
