When people’s situations are complex and demanding it is important to support them having a better life. The City of Reykjavik offers a wide range of support to people who are homeless and have problems with drugs or mental health. Support for homeless people is based on the philosophy of Housing First and Harm Reduction.
There are three emergency shelters for homeless people in Reykjavik. They are all open every day from 5 pm to 10 am the next day. Dinner and breakfast are provided and the VoR Team and emergency shelters’ teams offer services and support. Each emergency shelter has accommodations for a fixed number of people, but no one is sent away.
The VoR Team (on-site consulting team) assists people who are homeless and have substance abuse and mental health problems. The team provides individualized advice and support on the ground.
The City of Reykjavik owns housing for people with complex problems who receive the services of the VoR Team. These include rooming houses, apartment complexes, single apartments and tiny houses.
