Appeal to the Welfare Council Appeal Committee

The Welfare Council Appeal Committee of Reykjavík City may grant an exception to the rules on the services of the Department of Welfare when presented with specific factual grounds to do so.

Magnea Gná Jóhannsdóttir, City Councilor for the Progressive Party, chairs the Welfare Council Appeal Committee. The Committee also includes City Councilor Ragnhildur Alda María Vilhjálmsdóttir from the Independence Party and Sigrún Skaftadóttir, Head of Division at the Department of Welfare.

How do I submit an appeal request?

If your application has been rejected, you can submit a request to the Welfare Council Appeal Committee requesting the Committee to reconsider the decision of the Department of Welfare.

You can also fill out a PDF request for an appeal and send it to afryjun@reykjavik.is or submit it at your district Center.

When can I submit an appeal request?

You can request an appeal within 4 weeks of being informed of the decision of the Department of Welfare.

What happens next?

A request for an appeal is made to the counselor involved in the case. The counselor will contact you to learn more and write a memorandum. Next, the request is heard at the Welfare Council Appeal Committee meeting. You will be informed of the outcome as soon as the decision is made.
