Driving services for disabled people
Disabled individuals who cannot make use of public transport or their own vehicle may be eligible for driving services. The goal of the service is for people to be able to get around when they want to. Pant is responsible for driving services for disabled people.
Am I entitled to driving services?
To be eligible for the driving services, you need to have legal residence in Reykjavík and meet one or more of the following criteria:
- Be of reduced mobility and use a wheelchair.
- Be unable to use public transport due to a disability.
- Be blind.
Disabled children may be provided with driving services, in which case parents or guardians will need to apply.
How do I apply for the service?
You apply for driving services online using My Pages.
You can also fill out a PDF application and submit it at your local Center.
What happens next?
Your application is assessed based on the conditions and your ability to use other travel options. People may be provided with driving services for a part of the year if needed.
You will be notified in writing whether the application is accepted or rejected. Responses to online applications are posted on the Driving Services Application Portal. The services are generally approved for a period of 2 years.
If your application is denied, and you believe there are exceptional circumstances, you can request a review by the Welfare Council Appeal Board.
I've received approval for driving services, what happens next?
Once the driving services application is approved, you can contact Pant who provides the services.
