About the preschool

Brekkuborg is open from 7:30am to 4:30pm

In Brekkuborg, an average of more than 70 children attend at the same time, ranging in age from one to six years. The preschool has four age groups named: Brekkulaut, Brekkulind, Brekkulundur, and Brekkulyng. Brekkuborg views the environment as the third teacher and provides opportunities for learning and play through its premises and grounds.

Philosophy

The values of Brekkuborg are democracy, respect, and friendship

We operate based on the philosophy of Reggio Emilia, adapted to suit Icelandic conditions, culture, and uniqueness. The preschool aims to be a dynamic and constantly evolving place where children and teachers have positive relationships. Children are placed in learning and play environments that support their overall development and encourage autonomy and independence. These experiences allow children to explore and investigate based on their own interests. We also follow the philosophy of Caroline Pratt, who designed unit blocks with the aim of advancing the child's mental, physical, social, and emotional development.

The Center for Brekkuborg

Brekkuborg Preschool falls under East Center. East Center provides a wide range of services to the residents of Laugardalur and Háaleiti and is a comprehensive information source for municipal services. The Center provides welfare services, school services to preschool and primary schools, day care and recreational counseling, and various other services.

Child prosperity

The Act on the Integration of Services in the Interest of Children’s Prosperity has come into effect. The goal is to ensure children and guardians receive the right assistance, at the right time, from the right parties. Families and children in need of early support have guaranteed access to a contact person in the child's immediate environment, such as in preschool or primary school. The contact person offers information and guidance on services and ensures that children and guardians have unhindered access to these services. Children, youth, and guardians can contact the school contact person to request integrated services.
